What refresh rate describes
Refresh rate describes how often the display updates its image. In LED configuration software it is a performance parameter alongside grayscale, scan behaviour and other cabinet settings. A higher value can reduce visible flicker, but it is not a universal guarantee of a clean camera image.
Why a camera can still see artefacts
A camera exposes light over a chosen time while the LED system refreshes and scans. If the camera exposure, frame rate, display refresh and system timing do not work together, the recorded image may show scan lines, dark bands or tearing. This is why a specification sheet alone cannot prove an in-camera result.
For broadcast, XR or virtual-production work, the LED controller, camera, processor and sync method should be planned as one system. Where the equipment supports it, genlock and phase adjustment can help align the display and camera timing.
What to test before committing
- Record a short test using the intended camera, frame rate and shutter settings.
- Confirm the exact receiving-card and controller configuration, not only the cabinet model.
- Check low-brightness material, gradients and saturated colours as well as full-white output.
- Record the test settings with the quoted batch so the result can be repeated.
